UPFA to obtain almost 2/3 majority with the National List seats

The ruling party of Sri Lanka, the UPFA has been able to secure a vast majority of seats at the Parliamentary General Election concluded yesterday evening with the completion of the re-polls at the Nawalapitiya Electorate in the Kandy District and the Kumburupiddi polling division of the Trincomalee District.
The UPFA obtained 10 out of 19 seats in Colombo, Gampaha – 12 (out of
18), Kalutara – 7 (out of 10), Kandy – 8 (out of 12), Matale – 4 (out
of 5), Nuwara Eliya – 5 (out of 7), Galle – 7 (out of 10), Matara – 6
(out of 8), Hambantota – 5 (out of 7), Jaffna – 3 (out of 9), Vanni –
2 (out of 6), Batticaloa – 1 (out of 5), Digamadulla – 4 (out of 7),
Trincomalee – 2 (out of 4), Kurunegala – 10 (out of 15), Puttalam – 6
(out of 8), Anuradhapura – 7 (out of 9), Polonnaruwa – 4 (out of 5),
Badulla – 6 (out of 8), Moneragala – 4 (out of 5), Ratnapura – 7 (out
of 10) and 7 out of 9 seats in the Kegalla District.

The total number of seats obtained by UPFA through the electoral
process now stands at 127. With more seats to be earned through the
National List, the UPFA will obtain a large majority of seats which
will be close to a two third of the total number in the next
Parliament.

The largely anticipated strong government elected through the General
Election will undoubtedly strengthen the newly re-elected President’s
massive development programme. The verdict of the people has been made
clear once again after 3 months of the re-election of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa.
