"The establishment of the Buddha Sasana in Sri Lanka on a day such as this marked the dawn of a new civilization in the country. We commemorate this landmark event with honour, states President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a Poson message. 
The message: "An intelligent and civilized nation emerged in Sri Lanka with the advent of Arahant Mahinda Thera who delivered the message of the Dhamma. The establishment of Buddha Sasana in the country ensures the protection of all living beings.
Our nation achieved excellence in the social, cultural, economic and political arenas by following the new Buddhist path as shown by Arahant Mahinda Thera.
"The people of this nation filled with the noble values of kindness, mercy and compassion earned plaudits from other nations.
"Buddhism shows the means to end suffering, leaves no room for division. The message given by Arahant Mahinda Thera stresses the importance of treating all races and religion equally.
