President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the Swarnapurawara Award s ceremony at the BMICH last evening called upon all local government institutions to work towards the wishes of the masses at grassroot and all levels.
He stressed the need for local institutions to win the confidence of the people at such level and noted that public institutions were meant to be dedicated for the welfare of the people.
The ceremony also co-incided the with National Meeting of the Local Institutions and the Head of State said that development plans must be implemented with the concurrence of the masses as such projects were ained for their benefit.
He streesed the need to build a people who are not dependent on subsidies and added that local bodies too should not depend on state aid all the time.
